Pope Leo XIV, elected as the first U.S.-born pontiff, has signaled that his papacy will build upon the legacy of Pope Francis with a focus on humility, social justice, and the evolving challenges posed by technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Born Robert Prevost in Chicago, Pope Leo selected his name to honor Pope Leo XIII, known for championing Catholic social teaching during the first Industrial Revolution. He described AI and automation as profound challenges to labor, human dignity, and justice, calling on the Church to respond with renewed missionary zeal and moral clarity.
