The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) saw significant growth in 2024 across key areas such as membership, baptisms, professions of faith, and financial giving, according to its five-year statistical summary released by the Administrative Committee. This growth trend marks the third consecutive year of expansion for the denomination, even as many other U.S. church bodies report stagnation or decline.

Out of 1,667 PCA congregations, 992 submitted data showing a 1.84% rise in total membership, increasing from 393,528 in 2023 to 400,751 in 2024. Adult professions of faith surged 22%, from 4,641 to 5,678, while adult baptisms increased by over 16%. Children’s professions of faith rose 14%, and infant baptisms saw a smaller but still notable 2.4% rise.

Financially, the PCA reached an all-time high in congregational giving, with total contributions hitting $1.29 billion—up nearly 16% from the previous year. Per capita giving rose by 13%, and giving to denominational causes increased by over 12%, reaching nearly $24 million. Benevolences directed to missions and mercy ministries also rose to $170 million.

While the number of presbyteries dropped slightly from 88 to 87, the number of congregations grew, along with an increase in teaching elders and ministerial candidates, showing both spiritual and structural vitality within the denomination.

This upward trend is especially noteworthy in contrast to the nationwide religious landscape. The Southern Baptist Convention and Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) both reported membership declines, while the United Methodist Church continues to experience disaffiliations.

The PCA’s consistent growth, alongside increased engagement from younger generations, may suggest a counter-trend within American Christianity.
