Over the weekend, dozens of churches reported that Facebook removed posts containing links to SermonAudio, a platform widely used by churches to stream and archive sermons. Affected churches include Littleton Baptist Church in Colorado and Tri-City Baptist Church in Arizona, which lost months of sermon content from their Facebook pages. Facebook flagged the posts as violations of its Community Standards, citing cybersecurity and phishing concerns. Some content was also reportedly removed after user reports labeled it as abusive.

SermonAudio stated it received no direct explanation from Facebook or its parent company Meta, though by late Saturday, the company could once again post links to its site. Some deleted content, including SermonAudio’s own Facebook posts, began to reappear by Monday. The Presbyterian Church of North Carolina reported that while some of its posts had returned, others remained missing.

The incident has reignited discussions about platform dependency and content control. SermonAudio emphasized the need for faith communities to develop private infrastructure to safeguard biblical preaching from third-party moderation policies. The company acknowledged that the removals could have been caused by a technical error but warned of the vulnerability churches face when relying solely on social media platforms for outreach and sermon distribution.

This incident has also drawn attention from church leaders, many of whom rely on SermonAudio as a primary distribution method for online sermons. Some are now reconsidering how and where they share their digital content.
