Colorado Pastor Leverages Blockchain to Tokenize Historic Church
Pastor Blake Bush of the Colorado House of Prayer is using blockchain technology to raise $2.5 million to purchase the historic 19th-century Old Stone Church, a property his congregation has rented for the past two years. This innovative approach allows the church’s community to become co-owners through a process called tokenization.
Partnering with REtokens, a real estate tokenization platform, Pastor Bush is offering “Stone Tokens” at $500 each, giving investors an opportunity to support the purchase while becoming partners in the ministry. Accredited investors can participate, with the minimum contribution set at $50,000. The tokens will trade on the secondary market indefinitely or, as noted on the initiative’s website, “until Jesus returns.”
Pastor Bush’s journey into blockchain began in the summer of 2022 after he invested in Ripple Labs’ cryptocurrency, XRP, which led him to explore blockchain technology further. Inspired by his research, Bush realized real estate tokenization could help the church secure ownership of the Old Stone Church. “I heard the Lord say ‘tokenize the building,’” Bush told Forbes, reflecting on the divine inspiration behind the project.
REtokens rolled out the first phase of the project targeting accredited investors on Friday. The initiative aims to secure the future of the Old Stone Church, which was purchased by Warren Yoder in 2022 for $2.2 million.
