ChurchSpace Expands to Detroit After $1.2M Raise
ChurchSpace, a faith-based tech platform that helps churches repurpose unused facilities into revenue-generating community spaces, is making its way to Detroit after closing a $1.2 million funding round. Co-founded by Emmanuel Brown and driven by the vision of CEO Day Edwards Antwi, ChurchSpace aims to solve the financial challenges faced by churches—especially Black churches—by turning underused sanctuaries into spaces for events, services, and economic empowerment.
The funding round is notable not only for its size, but for the rarity of Black-led ventures receiving significant venture capital support—less than 1% of U.S. VC funding goes to Black founders. Backers include Black Ops Ventures, Minor Capital, and Michigan Rise, with the expansion receiving an added boost from Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and city officials. As part of the expansion, ChurchSpace will relocate its headquarters from Houston to Detroit and begin forming local partnerships to help congregations unlock the potential of their buildings.
ChurchSpace originated from Edwards’ personal story. After watching her mother struggle to financially sustain a church she built from scratch—an effort that ended in her untimely death—Edwards became determined to find a better way for churches to survive and thrive. Her vision was realized in Texas, where churches using the ChurchSpace platform have earned as much as $100,000 annually, reinvesting that income into outreach, youth ministries, and community support.
With the Detroit launch, the platform plans to onboard churches citywide and offer them tools to create sustainable revenue streams. As Co-CEO Brown puts it, “This raise is more than a business milestone—it’s a testament to what happens when strategy meets faith.” The ChurchSpace model presents a powerful new form of digital stewardship, one that unites technology with ministry for long-term impact.
