Candela Controls Installs First DMX LED Church Lighting System
Candela Controls has successfully completed the first fully controllable and dimmable LED church house lighting system in the U.S. at Calvary Chapel Melbourne’s Viera Campus. The project introduces 80 DL-1500 LED fixtures, developed in partnership with Affineon Lighting, providing high-quality illumination while meeting stringent energy regulations.
Calvary Chapel, a multi-campus church reliant on video feeds for services, sought a lighting solution that balanced energy efficiency with superior visual performance. Candela Controls worked closely with architects during the design phase to integrate a DMX-controlled LED system that exceeds code requirements while delivering optimal lighting for worship and broadcast.
Key Features of the Installation:
- Energy Efficiency: The system operates at just 1.5 watts per square foot, below the 1.8-watt code limit.
- DMX Control: Each fixture is individually addressed and dimmable to zero, ensuring smooth transitions.
- Video Compatibility: The 3500K color temperature matches tungsten dimming curves, crucial for high-quality video feeds.
- Cost Savings: Reduced power consumption, minimal heat output, and lower maintenance costs allow for long-term financial benefits.
Viera Campus Pastor Dean Corns emphasized the importance of stewardship, noting that savings from the LED system can be redirected to community initiatives. Early feedback highlights improved visibility and an enhanced worship experience.
As energy regulations continue to shape lighting standards, this project sets a precedent for future church and auditorium lighting systems.
