Kansas City, Kansas, police have recovered approximately $36,000 worth of stolen property from Forest Grove Baptist Church after a break-in on Friday. Thanks to a tip and the assistance of Reverend Desmond Lamb’s iPhone tracking a stolen iPad, police were able to locate the stolen items just a third of a mile away from the church in a home on Walker Avenue.

Reverend Lamb discovered the break-in early Friday morning, with TVs, snowblowers, musical instruments, and computers among the items stolen. Lamb described the incident as making him feel “violated” and said it cast a shadow over Sunday’s worship service, attended by about 250 to 300 congregants. Despite the theft, the church remained resilient, pushing through with prayer and unity.

The police were able to recover about 60 to 70% of the stolen items, although many were damaged. “What hurts me the most is that you live in this community but you violated this community,” Lamb said, expressing disappointment that the person of interest lived nearby. The suspect, who is still in custody, also caused about $500 worth of damage to the church.

Lamb and the congregation have chosen to respond with grace, praying for the person responsible for the break-in. Lamb also praised the Kansas City Police Department for their quick and effective response in recovering the stolen property. While it’s unusual to recover stolen goods, police were able to return some of the items to the church on Monday.
